Walter E. Washington Convention Center
The Columbia Forrester joint venture partnered with the design team of GGA to create new meeting spaces in the existing Convention Center structure. Large spaces previously used for registration and open seating areas will be retrofit to create multi-functional and multi-configured meeting rooms.
At project completion over 50,000 square feet of meeting space will be created. The construction will be completed over several phases, while operations of the Convention Center will be maintained and fully functioning without any disturbance.
The multi-purpose rooms will be achieved by the use of folding partitions that collapse into the ceiling freeing up floor area and when down provide high levels of sound attenuation and separation to divide the space. Technological advances will be made in lighting and temperature controls. The spaces will be a wireless (WiFi) access facility and provide state of the art audiovisual capabilities to accommodate for meetings, exhibits and banquets.
